The Flaming Lips are one of those bands that are strange. All sorts of noises plopping in and out through several layers of audio while guitars and drums and bass drone out a rhythm and harmonies. Philosophical lyrics that bring out the all the weaknesses, strengths, mysteries, and certainties of life and death. It’s all sorts of things coming at you from different directions and even things that you might not even catch unless you really pay attention or let it go to the background. Here’s the songs that really stand out for me (although I think these are their most popular anyway):

The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song: This song just puts the human’s self-centeredness and placating the ego out for all to see, no pretense about it. What would you do? We all fail to be “good” at times for various reasons.

Fight Test: This song is about failing to stand up for something you believe in, whether it was love, an ideal, someone, whatever else you can stand up for in all in contexts. The “virtue of being cool” letting things not bother you or not mattering to you, rather than fight or at least just turn the other way when faced with something that you don’t like even when it’s with people you’ve known and like.

Convinced of the Hex: A song about being convinced of a hex (religion could be the one suggested, but it could really be anything one invests their life in, although I really don’t think “religious” people are particularly invested in much of anything actually related to the philosophy of their religion, rather the power and reputation and community and whatever else it brings into their life, case in point: pedophile priests, not exactly any sort of moral example to anyone other than fellow pedophiles) but being told in a way that the “difference between us” isn’t all that different. The “she” is just as convinced of a different hex as the “you” is.

Slide to: someone being shown a woman’s photograph of her date on his smartphone immersed on whatever it is on it rather than focusing on her (perhaps they’re playing a rousing game of Words With Friends or he’s watching some video that she recommended and it’s much more romantic than it looks like, which is someone completely disinterested in the person taking the photograph).

Slide to: this scene in Willow where the brownies have a chat about continuing on or to go home.

Slide to: a friend witnessing a woman chasing her boyfriend screaming, “FOR REAL?! THIS IS HOW WE HAVE TO DO THIS?!” for who knows what reason. Perhaps the guy is about to propose to her but is going through some really awful set up scheme. Or for the more realistic reason: something dumb.

Slide to: me writing this blog entry on slide shows of different things humans do in the midst of caring about one thing or the other.

Slide to: A busy day at work leaving petty frustrations to the wayside and just doing work looking forward to finishing this slide show bit, not really knowing how to finish it.

Slide to: enjoying pancakes, biscuits, eggs and hash browns for breakfast before work and realizing just how busy it’s going to be.

Slide to: the moment that you realize that just because you’ve said what you’ve had to say doesn’t mean the message was sent.

This is dating back a couple of years ago, but it just had to be brought back up in hopes that GameFreak actually do think “these are good ideas, let’s actually make one if so many people want it”. Junichi Masuda, who is the co-founder of GameFreak, had once said “I think the Pokemon core series is always going to be with handheld hardware, in the future as well.” Well, sorry to disappoint you Junichi, but that’s where you couldn’t be more wrong.

If I didn’t know any better, I’d think the reason GameFreak don’t REALLY want to make a Pokemon Wii U game is because it’s:

a) Hard work

b) May use so much of their precious millions they get from their Pokemon DS games

c) They don’t like sharing the “main” series with another developer, so they wouldn’t get another developer to make it either

With the recent announcement of Pokemon X and Pokemon Y, where it uses polygonal 3D models, in a sense GameFreak are actually half way there, yet they still refuse to see just how good a Pokemon Wii U game could be. I once mentioned in a previous article from last year on the same lines the ideas the Wii U game could contain. This is a paragraph on the idea I had for a Pokemon Wii U game:

“Nintendo should publish a game called “Pokemon Kanto” for the Wii U, where it has all 151 Kanto Pokemon, all 8 gym leaders, and where everything has 3D models. On the TV, you could have your Pokemon fighting in an environment, whilst on the handheld screen controller, you have all your options; Fight, Run, Items and Pokemon. It would work perfectly. It’s almost like the Wii U is built for a Pokemon game. Rather than in a DS game, where you move one square at a time, “Pokemon Kanto” would be like any other Third-Person RPG, where you run around the environment freely. The story doesn’t have to be related to Pokemon Blue/Red/Yellow or the TV series. Instead, Nintendo should start the story from scratch, with it’s own unique story, but keeping iconic people like the gym leaders and “Team Rocket”. Nintendo could also include monthly tournaments, where people don’t have to leave their own home to win cool in-game prizes, like “Rare Candies” for runners up, a super rare Pokemon like Mew for the tournament winner and so forth. You could even have close relationships with your Pokemon, where feeding them nice treats shows their affection to you.”

Now isn’t that a good idea? Well to top that off, around the time when a new Pokemon game was rumored a few weeks back, one article caught my eye: “Pokemon Rainbow”. Now although it was still considered to be a 3DS title, it still had some good ideas, where the first four regions of Pokemon were combined into one game. Now imagine that, but on the Wii U. That would be the Pokemon game gamers dream for. If you consider how many copies Pokemon sells a year, it could sell the Wii U. Look at Zelda: it works well on both consoles and handhelds, with the games actually tending to be better on consoles. I mean have you played Skyward Sword (even if the beginning was slow). Ocarina of Time was even a console game that was ported to the 3DS. If that doesn’t tell us something, then I just don’t know this industry any more.

To further support my point, I think GameFreak should probably gaze their eyes over to a game out this week in the States and out next week here in the UK: Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. Now after playing the demo to the game, it made me think that the gameplay is what a Pokemon game should be. The battles are almost like that of the television series; in the TV series, it’s not turn based. Pokemon just fight and use abilities when they get the chance to, which is much like Ni No Kuni. It’s fast paced battles where you always have to always be on the ball. If you want to use a health restoration item, they have to do it while the fight is going on.

You can also take on quests in Ni No Kuni, something I’m sure Pokemon Wii U could adapt. It could have quests like “Go catch me this Pokemon and I’ll give you this super rare one” or “that guy ran off with my Pokemon. Can you get it back?” or even “if you get your Pokemon to “this level” I’ll give you this Leaf Stone”. Side quests could lead you all across the regions; it’d be like Skyrim, World of Warcraft, Guild Wars… only it’s Pokemon. Plus Ni No Kuni also uses gameplay cut scenes as well as fully animated cut scenes, something I’m sure the Pokemon Wii U game could also do if GameFreak teamed up with Team Kato, maybe even Studio Ghibli… could you imagine a Studio Ghibli Pokemon game? Gorgeous.

To improve the gameplay, GameFreak could also allow players to design their own characters, rather than having players choose from the default “Boy” or “Girl” appearance. The game could even be fully online supported, where you might possibly run into a Pokemon trainer on your journeys. This might be a tricky feature though, considering you might just be starting off in the world and you run into somebody with level 100 legendary. Perhaps you can only see trainers with a similar Pokemon power to you; similar, but not exact (someone has to win). Perhaps the game could also make it very difficult to capture the legendaries; in previous games, it’s too easy to capture them with a master ball.

All these ideas could combine to make one giant Pokemon games all fans would buy a Wii U for. Well, maybe not buy a Wii U just for it, but it might just convince them. Here’s the recap GameFreak on what to make:

First 4 regions of Pokemon combined

Side quests taking us “across the land, searching far and wide”

Full polygonal 3D models

Fully customizable characters

Third-Person free movement (i.e. not one square at a time)

Tournaments bi-weekly/monthly

Ni No Kuni styled battles

A unique storyline (perhaps set years after the anime)

Make it tougher to capture legendaries

Anime cut scenes (may be tricky to do if your character is designed uniquely)

Be able to choose who to go out, rather than it being the Pokemon placed at slot 1

GameFreak, one day you’re going to see the console market is something to perhaps invest in. I fear, however that it’ll be too late. Sure, handheld consoles do sell a lot more than actual consoles, but choosing one over the other because there’s more of a market which makes me think is what GameFreak does is more like… well it’s almost like racism. I’m not going to produce an example, but you can see my point. It’s kind of unfair.

Last week you were given a break from my ramblings of little import. This week you have no quarter from me.

You do however have a post that is a quarter of how long it should be.

I’ve been playing Assassin’s Creed 3 and it sort of sidetracked me from writing last week’s blog. Having said that you can probably guess I’ve been loving the hell out of that game.

It does have some of that “include everything that everyone might want” trend that the video game industry has been in for the last few years, but they do a good job with the things they added. Especially the naval missions.

I’m actually doing something I usually don’t do: I’m actually making it a point to really go for all the optional objectives in the game. It adds challenge to the game, and it makes it even more fun, instead of just going through it for the story like I normally do for games with these sort of features.

Next week you’ll probably have a blog entry about me giving up on this.

2013 is going to be a big year for gaming. MASSIVE. With possible announcements of new consoles, Kickstarter releases and a few new IP’s, what are the games to watch out for in 2013? Let’s take a look genre-by-genre.

First-Person Shooter:

Bioshock Infinite

The 2013 Call of Duty can kiss my ass, because this year first-person shooter to watch is Bioshock Infinite. What looks like a game with rich environments, suspenseful gameplay and intense characters, how can you ignore this game? Bioshock was brilliant, Bioshock 2 was less so purely because it was just Bioshock 1 with multiplayer. I’ve been following this game since it’s announcement, and what I’ve seen from it looks to me like it’s getting better each time I see it.

Adventure:

Tomb Raider (Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC)

There were a few games this could have gone to, but I’ve managed to sneak those into other categories. Some remakes fail to receive the hype it may well of deserved, but Tomb Raider is right up there in being possibly one of the best remakes to hit the shelves. So much controversy has come out of this game, but out of that comes praise with it’s emotional scenes (including killing animals. It’s no Red Dead, but it’s way more deep), it’s intense storyline and it’s open world compatibility. It’s Tomb Raider as you know it, except its bigger, and looks so much better.

Open World:

Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC)

I don’t always praise a Grand Theft Auto game, but when I do, it’s about what it is, not what people expect it to be. There’s no doubt Grand Theft Auto V is looking to be something huge, and it has the elements of every GTA; the open world, the street violence and the cooky characters (not to be confused with “cocky”). But if there’s one thing this game has above all other GTA’s is style. The game looks rich and bold, and not just on the graphics side. The map is bigger (I think) and no doubt there will be more to do in this game than any other GTA. I just hope people don’t flame on it because it’s not what they expected, because I can see that happening.

Survival Horror:

The Last of Us (Playstation 3)

Could it be anything else? Now what we’ve seen so far has been more human on human action (kinky) rather than mutant on human, except in the reveal trailer. But what I want to see is mutant gameplay. Despite that, The Last of Us is shaping up to be one of the strong contenders of 2013. Joel and Ellies relationship reminds you of Lee’s and Clementines from the Walking Dead, except a little more older based (yes, I know Joel and Ellie came first). The more I see of that relationship, the more this game excites me. The Last of Us doesn’t look like one of those games that will be praised mostly for it’s gameplay or it’s graphics, despite them also looking awesome. But it will be it’s story.

Platformer:

Rayman Legends (Wii U)

I was disappointed to hear that Rayman Origins sold so poorly, and even though Ubisoft have said it earned more than it needed, Origins deserved more, and when I heard about Rayman Legends, I dropped everything; not literally of course. I’ve managed to play this game, and the art of this game make me gaze with awe. The Wii U’s gameplay certainly changes the way we viewed Rayman in Origins, and Ubisoft just kept impressing me the more I played this game, with it’s rotatable environments and multiplayer compatibility. I just pray Ubisoft makes this an online game, not local multiplayer.

Sequel:

Metro: Last Light (Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC)

Metro 2033 was a sleeper hit. The critics didn’t see much to it, but the gamers themselves (that’s me) saw something shine in it. It was a dark, suspenseful shooter that saw you [not blasting your way with a gun] but had you using your survival skills, conserving your ammo and actually looking behind you to see if anything is sneaking up behind you. Metro: Last Light betters all that, with some of the best graphics seen in gaming to date and more mind boggling storylines. Did you see the clip with the plane? I can’t wait to see what this game’s story will follow, if not the Metro 2034 book (not that I’ve been able to read it. There’s all but an English translation in sight).

New IP

Watch Dogs (Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC)

It was a cross between Beyond Two Souls and this one. But because Beyond Two Souls is more or less Heavy Rain but better, Watch Dogs it is. Ubisoft surprised everybody at E3 with this game, with gameplay mechanics not seen in any other game (it’s been attempted, but very poorly) which suggests this may just be on next generation consoles. Personally I think this game will be on both next-gen and current gen consoles because it will sell that way. Watch Dogs is new, fascinating and actually still quite a mystery, as it’s remained quiet since E3; it’s creating more anticipation by the day.

I can’t believe this year has flown right by. The older you get, the faster it flies by. Now I know what they mean by “life is too short”. Now I manage to get hold of a lot of money throughout the year, which is usually spent on video games. So here are the awards I have given to on games I have played; no, not games you’ve all played, what I have played.

Best Indie Game – Fez (XBLA)

Is it sad that as soon as I hear the word “Fez”, I instantly think of Doctor Who and his phrase “Fez’s are cool”? Because this game just proves how cool they actually are. Now to begin with, the game will look like your average 2D 8-bit game. And what’s different about this game to most games is that Fez will troll you. It will make you think your console couldn’t handle the game and break it. But if you are smart enough to not believe the trick, you’ll realize it’s just part of the story. Once you receive the Fez, 2D can switch to 3D, and the perspective of the game changes greatly, making one of the most unique game experiences of all time.

Best Shooter – Borderlands 2 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC/Mac)

An obvious choice. Borderlands 2 betters it’s predecessor in every way with bigger environments, more guns, new abilities and a better story. It also contains new characters and the return of a few old ones, such as Marcus, the sadistic person he is, Dr Zed who… I actually thought I killed in the Borderlands 1 DLC (unless he was just a clone) and everybodies not-so-favorite (but really everybodies favorite): CLAPTRAP! Some say this game is better with friends, but sometimes I have to disagree, purely because if you’re trying to get into the story and your friend is not, it ruins the game because they might just speed run it (the prick). Playing it alone gives it the better feeling, giving it that ultimate challenge.

Best RPG – Diablo III (PC/Mac)

I’m not one of those people who complain about the typical problems of the game, such as “it has to be online” or “this error won’t let me play the game”. Sure they are annoying, but those aren’t the reasons you score the game such a low score if you do. If you did, get the fuck out of gaming. Once you got past those problems came a game with multiple challenges to conquer, with great graphics and addicting gameplay (even if it is just clicking). It’s a weird game to praise because when you think about it, there’s not a lot to praise. It’s one of those “you have to play it to like it” games.

Best HD Collection – Metal Gear Solid HD Collection (Xbox 360, PS3)

Yes, in America this came out in 2011. But here in the UK, it came out in February of this year. What amazes me about this collection is that prior to myself buying it, I would get annoyed about any hype about Metal Gear Solid. And after the HD collection, I still do. But now I understand why people enjoy the games. After playing Metal Gear Solid 3, I am a total fan of the franchise now. Snake Eater made for some amazing story telling and brilliant gameplay, and if this is what the third game is like, lord knows what Metal Gear Solid 4 is like when I come to play it. It’s just a shame I couldn’t get into Peace Walker as easily as I did MGS3.

Worst Game – Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock (PS3, PC)

It breaks me to say just how bad this game was, considering I am a big fan of Doctor Who. But this game shows us nothing new in the universe, with enemies we’ve seen a thousand times in the franchise by the time this game was released, and the gameplay itself was rather broken, dull and extremely repetitive. And while Matt Smith’s performance was good enough, Alex Kingstons was not. You wouldn’t believe just how many times this game made me rage, especially when you gt so close to completely a level which might have taken you 5 or 10 minutes, and then you die, forcing you to go RIGHT BACK TO THE BEGINNING.

Best Action-Adventure Game – Far Cry 3 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)

Far Cry 3 was destined to be one of the most twisted, insane and exhilarating games of 2012. With its gorgeous open world, its style in gameplay and its twisted characters, Far Cry 3 can’t help itself but draw you in. There’s so much to do and so much to see, with hours of gameplay and even a multiplayer on top to keep you happy before or after end game, PLUS a co-op campaign. The only downside I have is the main character; his voice doesn’t sound as cool as it could of been in the game. He sounds very 16-year-old ish (no offense to the voice actor).

Game of the Year – The Walking Dead (Xbox 360, PS3, PC/Mac, iPad)

I cannot express my happiness so much at how this game turned out. Previous Telltale games have been duds, ranging from Back to the Future to Jurassic Park. The Walking Dead is one of my favorite franchises in the world, and to see this game shine gave me hope that licensed games could possibly have a spot in the world. The fact that it’s based on the comics too makes it all the better, with some minor characters getting a major role such as Lilly. The Walking Dead showed some of the best storytelling in games yet, and the relationship Lee had with Clementine just cannot be beaten by any other relationship in video games. The end of the game was probably one of the saddest of all endings, and the best part about the game is that even though it’s a zombie game, the story felt real and believable.

PLEASE BE WARNED: POSSIBLE SPOILERS ARE AHEAD!

Another christmas day comes another christmas special; this time giving the festive season a punch once again by making something so traditional seem so scary; the first being Santa, the second being Angels and now: Snowmen. This episode introduces us to a whole selection of new features, including a new TARDIS design, a new title sequence and a brand new companion… wait, she’s called Clara? But I thought Jenna just played Oswin in that amazing Dalek episode… I’m so confused!

The episode starts like your typical episode where it introduces us to the situation of the episode. A lonely little boy in the 19th century builds a snowman to which he finds can talk. It’s not long before we’re whirled 50 years later, we see him as a grown man, where he begins his deadly plot. And then the new title sequence rolls on… and I have mixed feelings about it. Now anybody who has ever watched the classic series may just be overjoyed by this title sequence, since it has bright lights, spacey wacey colors and flickers and even something else that was sneaked in that played a big role in previous title sequences. However I feel like the title sequence is a bit much purely because of those reasons. It’s quite cheesy and a total mess with everything that happens in it. It’s like your mind has been blown. No, not out of amazement; like your mind has ACTUALLY been blown up. It all feels a little cartooney too, especially at the final end of it with the TARDIS. You’ll see when you watch it.

The introduction to the new companion happened quite fast and you might not even realize it’s happened. When she goes outside of the bar she works in, she realizes a snowman which wasn’t there before. At the same time, she brushes past a man; the Doctor. However the Doctor is done saving worlds and “picking up strays” as someone once described it. Unfortunately for the Doctor, that brief meeting with her made a big impact, and in a way she becomes a bit of a stalker- in the usual kind of “investigating who this man is” kind of way. As a companion, Jenna-Louise Coleman’s performance is almost flawless; she’s smart, beautiful, witty and quite comedic. She is everything the Doctor dreamed of… it’s just a shame the Doctor is already married to River- at least you think he is when the two tend to flirt with each other a lot. Is it considered cheating if you were married to your wife after you saw her die?

As for the Doctor, he’s the same as he’s always been, except here he does quite a lot of sulking. That’s all he seems to do in this episode. Alright fine he has a few quirky moments but above all this was one of Matt Smiths weakest performances.

Also on the cards this episode are the return of Madame Vastra, Jenny Flint and Strax. “Apparently” after they appeared in “A Good Man Goes to War”, fans were dying to see more of them, and so Steven made wishes come true by including them in the episode. But hold on: didn’t Strax die in A Good Man Goes to War? Well yes he was, and it’s explained in this episode… sort of. As for their performances, Vastra and Jenny really do make a great team, bouncing off each others words. As for Strax, well unfortunately he’s become a bit of an idiot since we last saw him; again, it’s explained why… sort of.

Now we move onto the villains. One of them is a man named Dr Simeon (the little boy I told you about). For most of the episode, you don’t seem to understand what his whole role in the evil plan is. You’ll understand the evil plan, but not what he get’s out of it. I mean he’s still human for the most part, and despite being lonely there’s really no reasons for him to be part of the plan except to be a little scary from time to time. The snowmen looked like great villains. I say “looked” because we barely got to see them. All they were there for in the episode was to look rather terrifying; there was so much potential for these villains, but alas they barely made any impact. I could have sworn the title was “The Snowmen”. The other main villain is the actual snow, in a sort of ball thing. Voiced by the great Sir Ian McKellen (yes, really!), he’s the real villain of the episode, plotting against man kind to create a part human/part snow creature that will enslave the human race; your typical plot, but very thorough.

Finally, we get to see the new TARDIS interior in action. Now when I saw the interior in picture form, I had mixed feelings about it, and wasn’t sure if it would look good on screen. But alas, I was proven wrong. My personal favorite part of the new interiorwould have to be the swirling gallifreyan writing above the console. The new console room has been given a blue feel like to it, matching the outside. You’ll even get to see an awesome camera trick involving walking into the TARDIS which I have always wanted to see done, even if it was done rather cheaply.

The episode started off a little shaky, where a lot happened in a few moments, making it hard to take in, but things will start to ease in to place quite quickly. The new companion herself has certainly done well for herself and I look forward to seeing more of her when Doctor Who continues in the spring. One thing this episode does do though is create a lot of questions and give little answers, which I really do hope will be answered quickly. One final thing: why is this show obsessed with homosexuality? You’ll see.

I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn’t. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
-Samwise, The Two Towers

The great stories. Too many to count, really.

How can you have that sense without reading them? Believe me, you miss a lot from watching a movie as your only interaction with the story.

It’s really sad that reading isn’t important culturally. It’s really sad for books (in that they become more and more of a insular community), and it’s really sad for people (in that it really limits their language, their references, their character, and their world). A handicap on both sides.

Is there a solution? I don’t know. I’d say the only solution is talk about reading, what and how, and your thoughts on it. Not just in blogs and facebook, but in person also. Every chance you have. Okay, maybe not every chance. But as much as possible without seeming like some sort of asshole for reading.

Too late for me.

When Telltale released the first episode of “The Walking Dead”, nobody, not even Telltale, knew how much buzz this game would get. As each episode [...]

When Telltale released the first episode of “The Walking Dead”, nobody, not even Telltale, knew how much buzz this game would get. As each episode released, many gamers began to claim that The Walking Dead was their game of the year, possibly snatching the title at the VGA’s (not that it mattered). True to that, the VGA’s and multiple other sites gave the game their award for Game of the Year, beating the likes of Far Cry 3 and Dishonored. And when I read what people have to say about it, I just think “Oh grow up will you”.

I’ve read comments about how “The Walking Dead” is overrated. The comics have a big fan base, the television show has well over 10 million viewers per episode on one country alone, multiple pieces of merchandise everywhere, and then the video game getting high praise. I just think to myself: why the hell does it even matter if it’s overrated. Just because it’s overrated does not mean it can’t be good media. You literally have gamers out there who won’t even try the game purely for that reason that it’s overrated. Last year, I was quite like those gamers, where I hated upon Mass Effect 2 purely because nobody would stop talking about it; giving it all these awards and praise. Then I decided to play the game, and guess what happened? I fell in love with it. Still a shame the sequel didn’t work out though.

Now no, I haven’t played Far Cry 3 (I know I’m getting it at Christmas however), and yes I have played some of Dishonored and it is a great game, and no doubt Far Cry 3 looks phenomenal from what I’ve seen, but when you think about it, The Walking Dead has made the biggest achievement of the 3, even surpassing Journey. It’s not all about the graphics or the rich and tense gameplay; it can be about the story too, and following Clementine’s and Lee’s story not only breaks your heart in some areas but it just feels real. If Clementine was a 15-year-old girl, I honestly don’t think the game would have been interesting enough. It’s the fact that she’s 8-9 years old in the game that really makes you feel about her. You see millions of gamers out there now craving for the graphics (just read any “Next-Gen” console articles) and looking for the next best type of gameplay, and then you see millions of gamers talking shit about how “the story doesn’t matter” or “the stories in video games are bad” and then when one game is released where the story not only makes sense, but is partially under your control… people still rage, purely because it’s possibly the best they’ve seen, meaning they’ve been proven wrong. And they don’t like that. That’s why some (not all) of the gamers rage at The Walking Dead game.

These days it’s all about the FPS and RPG’s; that’s why Call of Duty, Battlefield and The Elder Scrolls are so popular. It’s funny too, because those video game franchises have been around a lot longer than The Walking Dead game, and yet it’s getting more hate by trolls than your average Call of Duty game purely because it’s getting so much praise; it’s getting more troll hate in a year than Call of Duty does in it’s lifetime. We all have an opinion, and if you didn’t like The Walking Dead, then fair enough. That’s your right. But it’s the fact so many people are immature when a game they didn’t enjoy wins a few awards that barely even matter that the claws come out. Why not just say “Hmm. Fair enough. Congrats” rather than “That overrated piece of shit? Why the hell did it win?”. The fact that The Walking Dead game is something quite new and special suddenly means people shit on it. If you played The Walking Dead for the gameplay or graphics, then you’re doing it all wrong. If you’re playing for the story, well done.

As a final note, personally I didn’t see Journey as GOTY material purely because it told a story that I just didn’t understand since it was pretty much told through pictures and I was left guessing the story, and some areas of the gameplay had many “what am I supposed to be doing here?”. Sure, the graphics were nice, but it’s not just about that really, which are the only comments I see about this game (“Journey was a gorgeous game” is what they say).

Also… Merry Christmas
